Introduction

In this section I will include a brief biography and pastime of each saintly person if available, and a sample of their teachings. In most instances sadhus manifest volumes of writings and or instructions and all the web sites in creation could not possibly contain them all. If you need more information or references to anything on this site please feel free to email me your request. Email

There has been and will continue to be unlimited appearances of divine personalities who visit this world to teach what is "reality" distinguished from "illusion." They teach in so many ways; by example like Vaisnava Acharyas, or by poetry like Kavi Karnapura and Jayadeva Gosvami;  by philosophy, music, or perhaps by establishing Dharma like the Kshatriya warriors. In some cases they may appear as a small child like Prahlad or Druva, a king like Yudhisthira, a demigod like Narada, etc.

Their teachings are of the greatest need to human society and we must embrace them with love and devotion. Rasik saints themselves always remain transcendental to the mundane atmosphere in what ever so called material situation they find themselves. By hearing about them and studying their pastimes we will be able to see the spiritual world. Then we must attract the divine couple by our own pure devotional service, as taught by our gurus, to gain entrance.

Q:  Who is a saint ?
A:  A saint is a living being who is self realized and appears in the material world to carry out the order of the supreme lord. They serve the lord in what ever capacity the lord desires.

Q:  Are there varieties of saints?
A:  Yes !  In the spiritual atmosphere there is unlimited variety,  saints have different personalities and moods. When a saintly person descends from the spiritual atmosphere to the material atmospheres they are referred to as rasik saints. When visible to us they externally serve the lord in a certain capacity and internally are absorbed in a particular rasa ( mood ).

Q:  Can anyone become a saint ?
A:  With out that possibility what's the point ! In the material world a living being can,  by association with a saint become a saint. By nature individual living entities are saintly but because of  mundane association they have forgotten their true identities, so sadhus come to remind us of what we have forgotten.
Fortunate persons who are associating with a saintly person will themselves go through three stages of realization. The three stages are: neophyte, intermediate and advanced.  Kanista, Madhyam, Uttama adhikaris. When the living being is sufficiently situated by realization in divine consciousness he is then classified as a  mahabhagavat. Conditioned souls sometimes try to imitate these saints for profit, distinction or adoration but will fall away eventually. A mahabhagavat is truly situated on the platform of  eternity , bliss and full knowledge. Sometimes they go undetected by the general population but always carry out the will of the lord eventually.

Q: So,  some saints descend to this material world from the spiritual world for our benefit,  if we get their blessings we can ascend to the spiritual world. Is that correct ?
A: Yes,  Perfect.  Saints show us the way home,  back to godhead.

Q:  Does God sometimes appear as a saint to teach the people of the world?
A: Yes, as recently as 500 years ago the Supreme Personality of Godhead appeared as Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Sri Caitanya never said he was God but all the realized devotees and scriptures have detected him as such. Sri Caitanya assumed the role as a devotee to show people of this age,  how to attain love of godhead.
