The Ramayana was written by Sage Valmiki and is an epic loved by all devotees. The present form of Ramayana which is most popular among the masses was written by Gosvami Tulsi dasa.

The story of the Ramayana is a beautiful tale of devotion, duty and right relationships. Shri Rama (Incarnation of Lord Vishnu) and Sita Devi (Incarnation of Goddess Laxmi) are the ideal royal couple. Rama is a brave, good and wise warrior and Sita his devoted, faithful, kind and beautiful wife.

Dasharatha, king of Ayodhya, wished to hand over his throne to his son Rama but because of a vow given by Dasharatha to Rama's step mother Kaikayi, Sri Ram had to go to the forest for fourteen years accompanied by his faithful wife Sita and loving brother Lakshman, who voluntarily accompanied him..

There they live the lives of hermits. The central episode is the abduction of Sita by the demon Ravana, and Rama’s pursuit and rescue of her aided by the brave monkey- general Hanuman. After the mighty battle where Ravana is defeated and after  the exile in the forest is over,  they return to Ayodhya where Sri Ram is installed as King.
